  1. Today i watched a video on youtube that was very informtaive and really helped me understand what i need to do to get into a college. I learned so much in 23 minutes that i didnt know and now i am really glade that i have learned so much about getting in to the college of my choice. I learned what grades i need all the way to who should i get to write me college recommandation letter. You dont find out these kind of things all the time but im really happy that i watched this and i was taught very important facts about admisson into college. Then after I chose a video by the name of "The big question in college applications" The guy that was speaking to me about this video taught me even more useful informtaion that i would need know in order to apply to college witch really is one of the hardest things to do when getting ready to go to college and its one of the most important things that you have to do. The site of the video that I watched was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DrPvGfbp0g&feature=related

  2. This video, with Douglas Christiansen, is a very informative film. Being the dean of admissions at Vanderbilt University, he has a broad knowledge regarding how stressful and important it is for High School kids to be accepted into a University. Christiansen mentioned that it is extremely important for the college essay to be in our words rather than having great assistancewrting a college essay, the college will then be able to see what kind of person you truly are. Furthermore, letters of recommendation should be focused on the applicant's skills and leadership qualities, not the writer saying how well rounded of a person you are. This video is a must see for everyone that is considering attending a college because it is very specific mentioning what it is that admissions officers are really looking at.

  3. As my second video I watched, Vanderbuilt at a glance. Manyfacts were presented to me such as Vanderbilt being one of the top 53 best universities in the world. Aditionally, Vanderbilt is rated one of the 20 best universities in America. This video is extremely worth watching and the music is phenomenal. I couldn't stop dancing to the music that I even invited my friends over to my house to jam to the music with me!!!!!!!!

  4. The Vanderbuilt video was interesting, but what the dean was talking about, I had already heard before, watching this video just reassured it. My goal for college isn't to go to a well established school like Vanderbuilt, but to go to a fashion college, particularly F.I.T. in NYC. I found a video from a student that is currently attending the school and he basically talks about the internships at the school (that are mandatory) and gives background info on the teachers there.

  5. The Vanderbilt video really helped ease some of my stress that I have been feeling lately about college. Douglas Christiansen explained that all Universities and Colleges are “superb” in the United States. Lately I have been concerned about getting accepted to the school with the right accommodations for myself academically, but I haven’t been thinking about the right environment for myself. Douglas Christiansen expressed that finding a school with the right fit community that you, as a student feel like you can contribute to is just as big of an importance as going to a prestigious school.
The second video I watched was “Vanderbilt at- glance,” the video was very informative about the school. Vanderbilt seems to be a very well- rounded school, with a beautiful campus. Unfortunately, the school doesn’t appear to be the right fit for me, but thankfully as Douglas Christiansen said in the previous video, there is plenty of schools out there!

  6. The video on youtube regarding Vanderbilt University was a great idea as a blog. At first I was not so psyched about watching the video, but as I really listened to what Douglas Christiansen had to say I was pulled in like a magnet. The video totally helped me with not looking at college application as a drag, rather as an opportunity to find myself. Additionally, I am not more at easy with having to think about it. His wise words absolutely helped get stress out of my mind...somewhat. Not only did this video help me with knowing how to apply myself in high school, but also how to go about with the application procces. This video doesn't only help me, but my parents as well with the financial aid section. The second video was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4NaxPOHLdQ&feature=channel, which gave me an overview of Vanderbilt University and showed me that there is diversity, many extracurricualars, and many things to explore in the area. Both videos gave me hope that if i don't get into the school I wanted to get into, it wont matter because there a whole bunch of more water in the pool!!!

  7. I found Douglas Christiansen's video extremely informative, and it answered a few of the questions that I've had on my quest to find the right college. I appreciated how Mr. Christiansen addressed the topic of extra-curricular activities. He stated, that colleges aren't necessarily looking at HOW MANY clubs or programs you’re involved with; but, if you were passionate, and involved in at least one activity. Colleges aren’t looking for quantity, they’re looking for quality. Another topic that I found very enlightening was the topic of AP courses. Christiansen stated, that you could go through your whole High School career taking age specific courses and maintain a strong GPA, but , a dean of admissions would see that as the safe road. He recommended that students should really try to challenge themselves; that shows more effort than no effort at all. I really liked that he brought that up because, there have been times throughout my high school career when I thought that taking a regular class instead of an honors class would be the best bet. I’m happy that I’ve decided to challenge myself rather than being safe. All in all, I actually really enjoyed the video. I wasn’t at all expecting it to answer some of my un-answered questions.
Second Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related. This video on college essay topics was interesting because I am going to have to write an essay, and it’s good to know what prompts to avoid

  8. The video gave superfluous amounts of information however, out of those twenty three minutes a statement that should be highlighted due to its significance would be: private universities can be cheaper than public universities. The word "private" generally makes someone think expensive however, Mr. Christiansen did mention that numerous private universities have better financial aid than their public counterparts. Therefore, private universities can be cheaper. Colossal amounts of applicants often avoid applying to private universities due to the general idea that private universities are more expensive.

The second video I decided to watch was VUCast: What is the "Obama Effect?" The video was quite interesting however, one statement that made the video even more interesting was: that the election of President Obama has changed the world in more than one aspect. His election has inspired overwhelming amounts of African Americans to work harder. The amount of African Americans that were impacted by the election of President Obama is so superfluous that the effects were even seen in Vanderbilt University. The average test scores of African Americans at Vanderbilt University has improved.

  10. Today i watched a 23 minute long video on the Douglas Christiansen Vanderbuilt University that was very informative and extremely helpful because it not only talked about things that i've nevere heard about or even knew about. For example the guy that was explaining things to me said that one of the most common questions that he gets from students is getting into a college and the things that they ask for when you apply?? and its actually one of the hardest things to do because he even said that when students are writing their applications they want to make sure that its good enough or they even get other people to write them for them which is not a good thing to do. I also learned about de admission reason why is because many families have asked if a private college is more expensive than the state colleges and thats not really an easy question because it all depends on where you go. TO conclude this video informed me about important facts that I should know about when i write my college recommendations he also talked about that one of the most important things is connection and this the first thing that a college student should do when they enter their first year of college. website that i used was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csSjvI3AVlI&feature=related

  11. The video “Insider guide’s to admissions” by Douglas Christiansen is extremely informative as well as helpful. Christiansen is Vanderbilt University’s associate provost for enrollment and dean of admissions. In the video, he covers several topics such as leadership, community service, advanced placement classes, essays, financial aid, and letters of recommendation. These topics are exactly what I think of when I think of getting into the university of my choice. Throughout my life my parents have always told me to get good grades in school and to participate in a few clubs, but they have never told me to be as active and helpful in the clubs I decide to join as Christiansen said to do so. The video cleared most of my doubts and misconceptions about the admissions process. It also taught me that participating and getting involved in clubs inside or outside of school can be as important as being academically great and challenging.
The second video I watched is called “College Essay Topics To Avoid.” The link to the video is the following, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related. In summary, the video is about the topics students write about when writing their college essay. Some of the topics mentioned that students should not use were divorce, sports injuries, and diseases. Even though the video was short it teaches that the essay should not be written to overly impress, in fact, it should be simple and positive.

  13. "Insider's guide to admissions" is a wonderful video I watched today. I think it is one of the best videos that I've seen related with colleges admissions. It answers the most common questions in a very explanatory way, and it helps students with everything that could concern them in this topic.Douglas Christiansenis Vanderbilt University’s associate provost for enrollment and dean of admissions, and he was the one giving information in the video. I found very helpful that he talked about the essays and how they should be written by the person who is applying, not their parents or friends, but themselves, speaking with their voice. Besides, he talks about high school recommendations and what to do to get an excellent curriculum; what classes to take, what clubs to join etc. He then talks about financial aid, how to apply and not to judge and think one is not going to get aid because someone they know didn't get it and they had less income. Finally, he explains who and how they read applications and what are the important rules that should be follow when writing it.

Another interesting video was "Colleges Essays to Avoid"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related

It was a short recommendations of topic that should be avoided when writing and essay considering the fact that they get boring since everyone writes about the same things.

  14. The you tube video "Insiders guide to admissions" was really helpful. When, I first started watching it I got kind of bored, but then question of taking AP classes came up, and it caught my attention. Thinking about going to college and getting in or not is very intimidating. Up until my JR year of high school, I didn't want to take Honors courses because I didn't think I was good enough, or I'd fail my classes and my GPA would go down. When the dean explained that they are looking for students who challenge themselves, I though that taking Honors was a good choice. Also, speaking of money, this video cleared up a lot of information in which I can help my parents with just in case money starts becoming a problem. I like being in extra curricular activities, and I though if I wasn't in a lot then my chances of college would go down, this video cleared it up that as long as I do something and excel in it I can get in too.

The second video I watched was:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4NaxPOHLdQ&feature=channel "Vanderbilt at-a-glance"

Vanderbilt, looks like a really great University. Like all Universities, it has students from all around the world studying to become someone. Both videos made me open my eyes to other opportunities out their instead of just the couple of schools I was looking at.

Watching the Insider's guide to admission on you tube really opened my eyes to my things that are coming my way. I realized while watching the short video that I wasn't really sure of what is expected from me when appling for college. I also had many question like, taking the AP classes, that were answred by the Dean of Vanderbilt college. The Dean's answers really lightened some of the stress when it comes to the essay and application. It helped me look at some of the more positive rather than negative views of appling to colege. By negative I mean writing the essay and how grammatically correct you have to be. I think this video video was probably one of the best videos about college admission because it targets the most commonly asked questions and clarifies them. He talks about leadership, extra-curricular activities, importance of academics, advanced placement, writing the college essay, preparing for college, filling out the recommendation forms and apllications, community service, financial aids available. and last but not the least an insight on the college adimmision process. The Dean points out many interesting things such as what they are looking for in the essay, who should write the recoomendation forms and what sholud be writen in those recommendation forms, should AP classes be taken and what colleges actually look at as far as extra curricular activities and grade. The most interesting thing that I noted the Dean say was that protecting that GPA by means of not taking challenging courses such as AP and IB courses is not the best way to go. Everything is balanced on a scale from what the High schools offer to how many students in a class and thats what determines how well you did in the High school. The video cleared many of my misconceptions and left me with an impression that students have to well not only academically but we also have to participate in extra curricular activites such as sports and clubs. To sum it all up, this video was an extremely informative video, giving superfluous amounts of tips, and answers to our question.

The second video that I watched was Vanderbilt-at a glance. It was a very interesting video because it gave an insight to college life. It shows the different possibilities and oppotunities provided in college. The video gave many facts as far as the number of stuednts and the rating for Vanderbilt. After watching the video I think I would like to apply to Vanderbilt.

  16. Insiders guide to admissions gave me alot of insider information that im going to be prepared and boggle different things thats going to be coming my way. For example, I'm not that experienced in writing an essay for colleges and this video opened up new ways and tips to help me with my essay. I liked how he stated about the AP classes because that would of been a question i wouldove asked if I was talking with him one on one. I really admired when he talked about the student count in highschool because in Cypress Bay their is alot of students so i always wondered if they can tell how many students where in my class.
The other video that i watched "Vanderbilt at-a-glance" got me pumped for college. it really gave me a enhanced perspective on what Vanderbilt is all about. It really captured my eyes when i saw the quotes and all the extra-curricular activities that they have at Vanderbilt.

  17. I found the Vanderbilt University video extremley helpful. The video gave me a better understanding on what colleges look for when choosing its students. They want well rounded individuals rather than a student who may excell in one particular area. Colleges search for numerous variables in order to choose an applicants, such as: SAT scores, club participation, GPA, rigor of cirrculum, essay, letter of recommendation, and more.
The second video I viewed was Vanderbilt at-a-glance, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4NaxPOHLdQ&feature=channel. This video demonstrated the campus and oppurtunities Vanderbilt has to offer. It was there to appeal students to apply at Vanderbilt; it deffinatley capitavated what Vanderbilt was all about, like Rudy said.

  18. "Insider's guide to admissions" was a very informative video. Douglas Christiansen gave an immense amount of information on applying to colleges. Some of the facts he stated were obvious. For example when referring to extra curricular activities he said it doesn't matter how many clubs a student is in, what matters is the leadership position they are in. This is a fact that students are always told when joining a club. What he said that was very surprising is how colleges look at the number of students in a class to determine if they can be in many extra curricular activities. I found this fact very astonishing. Overall this video was very informative, and I feel as if I now have a better understanding of applying for colleges.

Vanderbilt at-a-glance is the other video I watched. This video was less informative about getting into college, but instead it gave a superfluous amount of information on Vanderbilt. The school seems like an amazing school since its one of the top 20 in the nation. It also has people from over 50 different countries. Which make Vanderbilt an interracial environment. This would make me personally feel very comfortable being there.

  20. I found the vidio very interesting there was alot of information that i wasn't aware of and now i know. i really liked the way he talked it made realize that if you do things well college is not that big of a monster, that is not that hard to get in. personally i know what im going to study but im not sure what college i want to go yet. i think is very important what he said about feeling identified with the school you are trying to apply so that you have a better change to get in. the second video i saw i really liked its students from college talking about their expiriences and things that they wish they knew before going to college. different people talk about their expiriences and comment about different subjects. it has a lot of helpfull information.

  21. After watching this video, all I can say is WOW! I am completly amazed about this video; it gives so much more confidence to those of us who are so stressed about college, and applications, and GPA's, etc. Mister Christiansen clearly shows his dominance on the college matter. This short clip enhances the question I personaly would ask him, it really took tons of pounds off my shoulders. For those of us that are "scared" about college, or intimidated at the amount of work required to get in a good institution, I believe we shouldn't be ashamed to look for help and recommendation; as a matter of fact, it is very smart of us to do so, it would give us a better understanding of the college we are going to apply to, as well as all the details an apllications requests. This were definetly the 23:22 minutes best spent of my life.

The second video I watched is particularely based on Vanderbilt University. This video doesn't need any narration to express the magnitude of its institution. The video includes allusions from quotes and idioms from past physolophers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and William Shakespeare.

  22. After watching the first video, I felt much more relaxed about the idea of applying to college. My weakness would have been writing the essay and I was beginning to become more and more stressed every day I thought about it. In this video, Mr. Christiansen was able to explain that the writing should be the easiest part in that it is coming from my voice. All I have to do is write from my own voice and make sure that the essay expresses who I really am as a person and as a student.

The second video I watched was “College Essay Topics to Avoid”. The man in the video explained that the essay writer should keep the essay simple and not to overly impress the reader. You have to stay away from topics like death, divorce, or any disorders of any kind because many writers use it in their essays and the admissions officers are getting tired of reading essays of the same topic. I learned that I need to keep my writing true to myself and unique.

  23. This video proved to be be informative in explaining the admissions process. I had a vague understanding of it prior to this video, though Douglas Christiansen answered a few questions about admissions I've been pondering. For instance, his explanation of the fact that grades aren't the only factor in admissions and that being involved in the community and in extracurricular activities is also important helps be to understand what colleges look at. In fact, that video alleviated some of my stress concerning taking immense amounts of AP classes that I might not do so well in compared to taking a balance of Honors and AP.

As I looked to the right to pick a second video, one particular link caught my attention. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related is a yourtube vid concerning what not to write about in a college essay, and it was helpful in determining what exactly I should avoid when reflecting about my personal life.

  24. this video was very interesting becasue it helps you understanding better what colleges want from you when appliying. something that i notice is that is not that hard to get finacial aid that what is very important is to aply because you never know if they are going to give it to you or not. this helped me to understand that is really important to write the essay reflecting who you are so the college people can feel that you fit well for that particular school.

the second viedo i whatch i think it is very important because it refers to the situation of the country now. I think is important to analyze everything realted to college and financial aid is a very important part of it. So this gives us information in breve time.

  25. This video has officially become my bookmark on my browser, as I found this to be one of the most helpful and informational videos I have seen regarding to the admission process. Many of my dire questions have been answered and I believe this has set me on the correct path in getting me to the university I wish to attend. However, this video also increased my level of anxiety; it has created worry and made me regret many things I've done or not done in my high school years.

The second video I saw was: VUCast InterVU: Ethics, the economy and you, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP-M2GaeemY&feature=channel. This video discusses the involvement of ethics in capitalism and the involvement of the ordinary person. It speaks about the issue with Bernie Madoff, his swindling of millions of dollars from his clients, and the Merrill Lynch scandal. These cases open the eyes of many as to how those on wall street and the ones in control of everyone's trusts, aren't following through with what is ethically correct. This video is very informative as well, and raises interesting questions.

  26. "Insider's guide to admissions" was a very informative video. I feel that the 23 minutes and 22 seconds that were spent absorbing all the information given really made me aware of how much time and labor goes into one application. In addition, how careful one has to be when making an application is crucial. For instance, there was an application that Mr. Christiansen dealt with at another school he worked at, where an applicant had everything near perfect, grades, recommendation letters, etc. but on the fantastic essay, they mentioned, in the last paragraph, the name of another school. Furthermore, I believe that this video has encouraged me to continue being involved in the community while at the same time making a difference;hence, not just one was part of something but never really contributed. Moreover, it really quenched some critical questions that makes me feel that one doesn't have to be a valedictorian to be able to be competitive in an application pool. Meaning that I don't have to stress myself out as much about a standardized exam like the SAT or ACT because I could really make that up with a rigorous curriculum or an extensive extracurricular activity.

"Vanderbilt at-a-glance" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4NaxPOHLdQ&feature=channel) was a fantastic video, looking at it from a t.v. production standpoint, but had minimal information about the school. Yes, it said that there were over 6,000 undergraduates. Yes, it said that Vanderbilt is 23rd in federal research funding. Did it mention what are their biggest majors that they offer education for? Or what about some background information on their professors?

  27. This video it a really information and useful source for junionr and senior year students. Douglas Christiansen gives alot of good answers to very common questions that are being asked by everyday high school students who are working on their application. The video talks about things like essay's, whether to take AP classes or not, financial aid, and other categories that fall under applying to college. This man clearly has alot of expierence under his belt. He answers the questions fully and he had clarified many points when going to apply for a college.I will definitly add this to my favorites in order to go back and make reference to what he says in case i need help.

This next video is based on definite issues and conecerns that are happening now to the American Economy. They mention how Bernie Madoff managed to extort a large sum of money from the clients of the company. How this mans scheme was able to work because the company had trusted him with a task and he went around to taking millions of dollars. The two Vanderbilt Professors that teach student are talking how there are people that will do this to benefit them selfs. These Professors are teaching students about good moral leadership and ethics. They help students make good choices in life so that they might be able to succeed. Help them to understand how other motives lead to good choices.

  28. Douglas Christiansen in the "Insiders Guide to Admissions" video was very informative. It explained what i should be doing, and how to apply myself in this last stretch of my high school career as i move on to the third phase of my education. Another thing i enjoyed in this video was that he talked about how you have to find a school who's community has to fit who you are, and what they can provide for you and what you want to pursue. I think it was an eye opener for people who think that they have to get into these Ivy League Universities because in the end, those schools may not tailor to what they want to pursue.

The second video i watched was "College Essay Topics to Avoid" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g) and that was very informative because it tells you to keep away from the "Oh-sorry-sorry-me" victim approach to enter a college trying to make them find some guilt or sorrow for your cause. or the "Oh-Im-The-Best" approach and come off as a pompous ass.

  32. “Insider’s Guide to College” can be considered a useful tool that provides students with information concerning college admissions and other topics surrounding this issue. The purpose of this video is to reveal to students what do colleges consider when accepting or denying an application, so that students can be prepared and know what to expect. More specifically Mr. Douglas Christiansen, Vanderbilt University's associate provost for enrollment and dean of admissions, tells the viewers that accepting a student will not only be based upon a student’s grades; instead he states it will be based on a set of variables like how involved is the student in the community, the students integrity as a whole, standardized testing scores (SAT or ACT), high school profile, recommendation letters, the application essay, and obviously the student’s grades. Moreover he gives tips and explanations about some of the variables mentioned and how they are considered in the acceptance of a student.
Concerning the recommendation letters he says to get a person that really knows the student and that has seen him/her mature over time, and not the most famous person the student knows. He also recommends applicants to write the essay with their own voice, yet with appropriate grammar and structure. One of the most important topics that Mr. Christiansen talked about was the balance a student has to have with the classes he/she chooses; he suggests students to take risks by taking AP and Honors classes, but not to slack off and get bad grades on them.
Overall “Insider’s Guide to College” covers rudimentary topics about college admissions and what are the colleges looking for in a student; consequently, helping the applicants in how to handle the situation when applying to college, and what to do in order to improve their chance of getting into the college they want.

“College Essay Topics to Avoid” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&NR=1)
Was the second video I watched. I’m not sure if this video really helps anyone in choosing the topic for their college essay, because even though it makes sense not to write about something so common and general like sports, injuries, diseases, etc. The guy that is giving these recommendations doesn’t have any credibility for the reason that he is not a college admission officer or at least the viewer doesn’t know that. In contrast with “Insider’s Guide to College” this video doesn’t portray a sense of security, so personally I don’t know whether to follow the suggestions made in this video or not.

  33. As a junior, the video “Insider’s guide to admissions” helped me a lot, giving me some tips on what colleges are expecting from applicants. Douglas Christiansen, a Vanderbilt University's associate provost for enrollment and dean of admissions, talks about the several misconceptions that great numbers of students encounter. Douglas Christiansen specifically engulfed the topics of AP classes, financial aid, extracurricular activities, and college essays. Most importantly, he inspires students to be completely authentic when writing college essays, students want to avoid trying to over impress. He talks about how it’s not one thing that affects your admission, but all the variables that make you a candidate for that university and the community they are trying to form. Being well rounded is the best a high school student should aspire; a balance between grades, AP classes, and extracurricular activities is the base for a successful college search. After watching this incredibly helpful and informative video, I couldn’t help but watch a similar video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g, “College essays topics to avoid”, this was very useful because it gave me a better aspect of what topics are commonly used and I should stay away from. These two videos were very constructive to my knowledge about colleges and what they are expecting, because both are starting to prepare me for the applying to college high school experience.

  34. The video "Insider's Guide to Admissions was very informative for me because I am currently looking at colleges. It helped me to understand excactly what colleges are looking for in their applicants. Douglas Christiansen also privided helpful tips for choosing the college that best fits you. He included choosing the right community as a key reason for choosing any particular school because you need to feel comfortable both on and off campus. This video deffinatly makes me feel a lot more comfortable about the whole application process.

This was the second video that I choose to watch. I liked how this video informed us that staying away from the "pity me" topics is a must. Instead you should use the "im the best" appraoch and speak with confidence in your essay.

  36. First of all I want to say thank you for letting me know that this video existed. Today I watched 23 minutes of informative tips on how to get into a good school. This video answered most of my questions about getting into college and that's why I started this comment saying thank you. After I watched this video I realized the good things and the bad things about AP classes and specially I find it helpful because it worked as a motivational impulse or motivational push for me to work towards getting into a good school. It's good to be reminded that the GPA isn't the only thing that universities and colleges look at when they are in admission process and better to know the delicate and careful that the person applying has to be when applying for a college. Again I want to say thank you for showing me this video.

  38. The YouTube video "Insider's Guide to Admissions" was an extremely informative video for those in question about various aspects of college admission; including but not limited to the topic of AP classes, public service, GPA, etc.
This video assited in forming an outline for what I must place into my own college preparation. The main portions of the video that clarified aspects of my college preparation were the letters of recommendation as well as the overall individualism of the college transcripts.

"Insider's Guide to Admissions" combined with the NBC news report on admissions with Dr. Bari Norman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pupSlxk5kU0&feature=related) gave the information needed to create a college transcript confident enough to send. THe NBC news report mainly covered the aspect of individualism of the transcript specifically targeting not to overdue your college admissions process. This news report noted that a student should be well-rounded and should be able to exhibit their personality.

Beyond any doubt, the YouTube videos "Insider's Guide to Admissions" along with the NBC news report on admissions with Dr. Bari Norman advocated the necessary requirements and individual characteristics needed to increase the chance for college admittance.

  39. The youtube video "Insiders Guide to Admissions" was very informative. I havent really watched any videos or looked at a lot of things for colege yet. This video really helped me get started and I learned things that i hadnt heard before. It showed me that i didnt need to take higher classes like AP if i wasnt getting good grades. Its on a balance scale so you dont need to take high classes and get bad grades.

The second video i watched was on college essay topics. The guy explaining the video informed me on when im writing my essay to not write about death, disease, trips, breakups, etc. The video helped a lot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related

  40. The brief twenty minute video about getting into college by Douglas Christiansen, Dean of Vanderbilt University, put the reality of what I’m going to have to do in the coming months. Christiansen knows what colleges really look for and it gave me an insight of what to do and not too. To start things off, I learned that I might need to help out more to make a difference in our community and school. Right now, I am in a couple clubs, but this video showed me that I need to contribute more of my time participating in activities with them. The piece of what Christiansen said about the college essays was something new to me. I thought before watching this video that your college essay should be this well written, magnificent piece of art, yet what it really is intended to do is to show the authentic you. To make sure my future will be the greatest, I must ensure that I pick the right college. I need to start pulling up applications from different colleges to get prepared, start to investigate schools to make sure I will love the one I attend, and start to think of who will provide a recommendation letter that really characterizes me.

The second video I watched, Vanderbilt at a Glance at http://www.youtbe.com/watch?v=H4NaxPOHLdQ&feature=channel was just a short “glance” of the campus. This video wasn’t as informative as the first one, but I now know how good of college Vanderbilt is. In the video they mention that it is the 53rd best university in the world, top 20 US Universities, and 23rd in Federal Research Funding. I wish though this video was longer so that I could know more about Vanderbilt; however, I think I’ll do some research on my own because who knows in two years I could be walking the campus of Vanderbilt University.

  41. "insiders guide to admissions" is a very crucial and important video thbat any one that is going to attend college should watch. This video talks about very important topics such as: sports and extra curricular activities, clubs, ap classes, what someone should do to better their chances to get into a better college and other important things. Something i learned from this video that i didnt know was that it is better to get in one club and do a difference rather than to be in 20 clubs and do nothing. Other than that i already knew everything this video talked about. Although it wasstill very helpfull.

The other video that i watched was "college essay topics to avoid". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related
-This video talked about the seven deadliest essay topics to avoid. These topics are: death, divorce, disease, divorce, sports injuries, trips or cruises, and boy/girl breakup. The speaker also talked about not trying to impress the admissions reader.

  42. The you-tube video, The Insiders Guide to Admissions has really surprised me. I agree with Andres from your 3rd period, this video has really helped me and I have Ms. Ojeda to thank. I did not realize it would help me out this much. At the beginning it talked about extracurricular activities and such which I already knew about. The part that really helped me was the the talk about the essay, I was a bit confused about that, but after hearing what he said my mind is a bit clearer. It also interested me so see that the school you go to during your high school years is looked upon by the admission officers as well, it's not just about yourself. One last think which really helped me was the admission essays, and how important it is to make sure you are yourself.
The video titled "College Essay Topics to Avoid" made me realize that you should obviously not talk about anything depressing, it seems to be an overused topic. This video very quickly and easily narrowed down my essay topics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related

It's reassuring to know that colleges are looking for students with a passion. Also, it seemed reassuring to know essays require individuality not canned formulas. Finally , it was very interesting to know how the application process is handled on the side of the college. 45. The video I just watched on youtube supplied me with an abundance of information that I did not have before. I learned things like what grades I need all the way through high school and how extracurricular activities are very important. I learned that being in numerous clubs is not as good as being in one club and playing a role. Just having clubs to put on ur application without being involved with those clubs won't help you as much as I thought. This video made it clear to me what you must do in order to get into the college you want.

The second video I watched was “College Essay Topics to Avoid” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&NR=1). I learned a lot from this that I did not know. This video informed me that when writing an essay you want to talk about atypical things. Schools do not want to read the same thing over and over. You need to write something that will make you stand out from the rest. This video also talks about not writing anything that would suggest depression. Colleges want to see optimism, not depressing topics. Considering how important the essay is in getting into the college I want, I found this video to be very helpful.

  47. The video “Insider’s guide to admissions” was a major eye opener for me. Numerous people, such as my parents, teachers, and peers, have told me that it's getting to be that time where I should be getting ready to apply for college. This video helped me see what is necessary and what I should be doing to prepare myself for this upcoming journey. So many students are unaware and unprepared about the necessaties to get into a college. AP classes, extracurricular activities, financial aid, and college essays were described in great detail which is will do wonders for students who watch this video.

The second video I watched was "College Essay Topics to Avoid". This video is a great resource of how to write a good college essay. It describes the things that should not be mentioned and avoided in your essay. Your essay should be about you and should show the college your unique personality and characteristics.

  48. After I watched this video on YouTube I understood the college application system better. I learned things like what grades to get and classes to take, clubs and extracurricular activities, and writing my essay. I will sure use this information when applying to a University.

The second video I watched was “College Essay Topics to Avoid” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&NR=1). It seemed that the things said were rather obvious and also unreliable. I personally didn't trust this information very much.

  49. The video was very informative. It taught me that it doesn’t matter the amount of clubs that you are in, what matters if you made a difference. If it changed you life or the life of others. Furthermore, the participation is what counts. That was something that I didn’t know. What is also important is to be honest in your essay and write it yourself. So hopefully I get better in writing essays so I make a good impression. AP classes are important but you have to get decent grades. He recommends that if our school offers AP classes we should take them. It also takes away stress from me the fact that SATs counts but it is not everything.

The second video was The 7 Deadly Essay topics to Avoid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ago6tIEnL0g&feature=related
This video was very careful because the essay is very important. We should not try to impress the college that much. We should be positive and try to keep it simple. Thank you Ms. Ojeda from giving us this wonderful opportunity to view videos that are educational, helpful and that they apply to us.

  50. Apart from aquiring more information on applying to college, I have been given more confidence doing so. It explains that while academic accomplishment is important, being involved in extracurricular activities also plays a major role. It is better to be part of less clubs and to be active than to be in 100 and not active.

The second video is on college essay topics to avoid. It tells you how to not overly impress, so to truly impress keep it intresting but simple.

A very important tip i learned from the video was that it is not all about grades, it is about extracurricular and SAT and your essay and how much your involved, etc. becoming part of a new community where you want to fit in is another huge part in deciding which colleges to apply to.

  52. This video, with Douglas Christiansen, is a very informative film. As the dean of admissions at Vanderbilt University, he has a grand collection of knowledge regarding how stressful and important it is for high school kids to be accepted into a college. Christiansen mentioned that it is crucial for someone to not have 20 clubs listed in their application but to have a few listed but show that you really invested your time in the organization to show you are an active citizen in your community. It’s also very important for the college essay to be expressed in our own words rather than having assistance from parents with writing a college essay. This should be done so that the college can be able to see what kind of person you truly are rather than from a robotically monotone person. Everyone that is considering attending a college should see this video because it is very specific at mentioning what it is that admissions officers are really looking for in a college applicant.

The second video I watched was “Vanderbilt at- glance,” this video was very informative about the school. Vanderbilt seems to be a very well rounded school, with a beautiful campus. Many facts were presented; such as Vanderbilt is one of the top 53 best universities in the world. Additionally, Vanderbilt is rated one of the 20 best universities in America. Although the school does seem ivy-league material I don’t believe I will be applying there because it is out of state and I must stay within Florida. Though it does seem like a college I would love to go to.

  53. The video posted by Ms. Ojeda gave me a wonderful insight into
what college is like. Those 23 minutes allowed me to understand
certain aspects about college which had me stumbling upon my future.
One of these features were the grades. My high school grades are very
important, nevertheless, is the involvement in the community that
stands out in order to get to the colleges I want to go, especially if
they are big private universities like MIT, or UM. However, all my
high school career I've been obtaining grades and helping the
community which reflect my achievements in life and how I will develop
in college. In addition, other key points are necessary to succeed in
college admissions. One of them is the recommendation letter. The
video suggest that we should get a person that has known us over the
years and he/she has seen us evolve as a person. These recommendation
letters are crucial in order to give a good outlook to the admission
office on whichever university I am applying to. Another fundamental
in the application period is the admission essay. The essay is, as
well, really important for the admission people to decide whether or
not they will accept you in their university/college.

Also, the video "Vanderbilt at a glance" at
    http://www.youtbe.com/watch?v=H4NaxPOHLdQ&feature=channel helped me to
acquire other points of view about different universities. Not only is
Vanderbilt one of the top 53 best universities in the world, but it is
also rated as one of the best 20 universities in America! As I watched
the video, it appeared to me that the university was a lot like the
Ivy-league schools and that's a major plus for Vanderbilt. However, I
have been looking at certain opportunities outside of state due to the
economical issue, but I don't seem to find any other option than
bright-futures and a scholastic achievement scholarship in order to
pay for my tuition. I found the video to be amusing and of deep
interest, nevertheless, I plan to stay in Florida unless an incredibly
    good offer is available.

He wants students to make a difference, and put passion into what they do. Extra curricular activities also play a big role in getting enrolled into Vanderbilt university. Douglas Christiansen also explained that the college essay must come from the heart, and not any gathered ideas you may have asked your friends for.
